Matt Cook began serving as pastor of 2BC in January of 2006. Like many Baptist preachers, he married above his head, and if you ever meet his wife Allyson, you’ll believe it. Matt and Allyson have two kids, Nathaniel and Caroline.

Matt is a native of Oklahoma and grew up in a pastor’s family. He attended public schools in Oklahoma City, OK, and Nashville, TN. He is a 1993 graduate from Samford University in Birmingham, AL, having earned a B.A. in History. He earned an M.Div. from Truett Seminary at Baylor University and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He has finished his work on his Ph.D. in Church History from Baylor University and can now be officially called "Dr. Cook".

Matt has served in a variety of ministry positions, including the pastorate of the First Baptist Church of Rosebud, Texas. Prior to his work at Rosebud, he served as Director of Prospective Student Services at Truett Seminary. Matt has also been: a camp pastor for Centrifuge Youth Camps; a youth minister; and an interim music minister. He has preached in churches, on college campuses, and to student gatherings throughout the nation.

Matt’s hobbies include: college football (watching it, not playing it), especially the Oklahoma Sooners; playing with his kids (when he can keep up); Fantasy Sports (he’s good, but not crazy); traveling; good restaurants (especially local places); and poker.

He is an avid reader. He particularly enjoys books on Christian spirituality by Donald Miller (Blue Like Jazz), Brian McLaren (A New Kind of Christian), Anne Lamott (Traveling Mercies), and Eugene Peterson (Subversive Spirituality). He’s a big fan of history books, biographies, and authors such as J.R. Tolkien and Guy Gavriel Kay.
