What We Do

In recent years some Christians in North America have started to reject the singular focus on correct belief that has characterized Protestant Christianity for much of its history. These Christians (and at Second Baptist, we would place ourselves among them) assert that ortho-praxy (correct practice) is as important as ortho-doxy (correct belief).

That’s not to say that we, as a community of faith, believe that we are doing everything that Jesus does, exactly as He does it. It does mean that we think that doing what the Bible says is as important as believing what the Bible says (if the two can even be separated).

For us that means things like:

  • Loving God with our hearts
  • Loving God with our efforts
  • Loving God with our souls
  • Loving God with our minds
  • Loving people who are different than us
  • Loving people who are marginalized
  • Loving people who disagree with us
  • Loving people by pointing them to Jesus

It also means things like:

  • Being good stewards of God’s creation
  • Getting involved in issues of global injustice
  • Being a good neighbor to those who live and work in Downtown Little Rock
  • Working with ecumenical groups of churches and individual Christians to accomplish good things
  • Extending good will to people of other faith traditions (or of none)
  • Helping couples develop healthy marriages and be good parents
  • Working toward racial reconciliation in our community

Of course, this isn’t an exhaustive list of what we do at Second Baptist, but these are a few of the things that we believe are important. If you’d like to see some other things we do, or if you’d like to join us in what we’re doing, take a look at the Mission section of our website.
