Hi, let me tell you about a special community of Christians that meet in downtown Little Rock and call themselves Second Baptist Church.

We are a people who seek to be genuine followers of Jesus, to follow what the ancient church called, “The Way.” Jesus described this as loving God with all our “heart, soul, mind, and strength” and “loving our neighbor as ourselves.” It's a tall order. One that we approach wholeheartedly and intentionally.

We are a people that doesn't check either our collective or our individual minds at the door when we arrive at church. We believe that God created us with brains to use in His service, to be open to the honest struggle we all have with the mystery of God. We believe God is present in our struggle and we embrace hard questions and difficult choices. We're a group that absolutely loves to learn.

We work hard to use our strength to try to make the world more like God intended, to bring the Kingdom of God to earth. We do that in places like South Africa, Helena, Central Arkansas, and Little Rock. We are without a doubt a mission-minded church. It's one of the deepest elements of our heritage as a church and has guided us to make visionary decisions together. Even our very location is a mission-minded decision, made more than once, based on a commitment and a calling from God to maintain a ministry presence in downtown Little Rock. We are a group of people who seek to recognize those in need and look for ways to actively do something about those needs. We know we can't solve all the problems of the poor and marginalized, but we also know that God has called us to do what we can, where we can, as soon as we can, so that people would see Jesus in our ministry to them.

We are a church that worships with our whole heart, seeking the face of God as we bow before him each Sunday. Corporate worship at 2BC is thoughtful, intentional, progressive, and vital. What we do each Sunday is in its own way both ancient and modern. We seek to look back to the expressions of our ancestors even as we seek to provide a voice for believers today.

The soul of 2BC can be found in the deep and loving community we share. We can be described as a "big-tent" church, marked by rich diversity. We represent a variety of cultures, ages, ethnicities, political persuasions, denominational loyalties, and socio-economic classes. We even have a few people in our church who aren't Razorback fans!

We have a history of acceptance, of being a place where people who are hurting from the bruises and scars of life can find love and unconditional acceptance. We're certainly not perfect ourselves, but we try to be a community where people can find love, no matter their warts, no matter what life has done to them.

2BC is one of the most caring, loving, and intentional communities of Christians you'll ever find. We pray for you God's richest blessings whether you're looking for a community to share the Jesus journey or looking to explore what it means to be a Jesus follower. Either way, don't hesitate to let us know how we might be of service to you!

Blessings,
