Our children love to worship because we help them know what worship is and use their hands, feet, voices, and bodies to worship God. At Second Baptist we are also intentional about teaching our children some basic skills that will allow them to be worshippers for a lifetime.
Baby & Me (Birth – 2 yr) - This 30 minute program each Wednesday evening gives both parent and child the opportunity to discover together the joy of music through singing, moving and simple instruments. (5:45 – 6:15 Wednesdays)
Preschool Choirs (3 –5 yr) - Each age group is allowed to play and move to the steady beat, is taught simple songs, and adds sounds and instruments to Bible stories. (5:45 – 6:30 Wednesdays)
Our goal is to introduce preschoolers to God through music by teaching them fun but memorable songs about who God is. Musically we want our preschoolers to be aware of their voices, be able to match pitch, sing the "so-mi" interval, recognize high and low, fast and slow and loud and soft.
Children’s Worship Arts (1st – 5th grades) - This ministry is designed for children to continue their path of discovering and developing their God-given talents. Each week the children participate in large group singing, small group theory and art sessions. The children are also given opportunities to experience a broader spectrum of the arts through the use of hand chimes, drama, movement and small group instrumental instruction at various times during the year. 2BC KidZ participate in our worship services periodically and produce a musical annually.
When kids reach the 1st grade, we start to provide them with more advanced opportunities to learn Biblical truths through music. Musically, our goals are for the kids to be able to match pitch and sing in rounds as well as two part harmony. They should be able to recognize note and rest values and echo rhythm patterns. The upper grades will understand the staff and be able to recognize the letter names of the lines and spaces.
